The Penny Story – Count Your Blessings

"The Penny Story – Count Your Blessings"

A few months ago, my wife and I where walking through the parking lot of our local grocery store. I looked down and saw a penny and walked right past it. For some reason, my mind dwelt on that silly little penny. Something kept telling me to pick it up. However, my pride kept telling me that someone might see me picking up pennies and think less of me.

We walked all the way to the entrance of the store and I told my wife to wait there for a moment. I ran back, picked up that penny and ran back to rejoin my wife. Perplexed, she asked what I did. I explained the little argument going on in my head between pride and wanting to pick up that penny. She paused silent for a moment and then asked to see the penny.

She held it up and smiled, then gave it back for me to put in my pocket as if I had found a great treasure.

While we shopped, the entire scene nagged at me. Finally, I could not stand it any longer. I had to ask my wife why she wanted to see the penny.

A smile crept across her face as she had me reach into my pocket again for the penny and hand it to her. She held it out for me to see. I had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?

‘Look at it.’ she said. ‘Read what it says.’

I read the words ‘ United States of America ‘

‘No, not that; read further.’

‘One cent?’ ‘No, keep reading.’

‘In God we Trust?’ ‘Yes!’ ‘And?’

‘And if you trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin.

So here is the lesson I learned that day from God and my Wife.

Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him.

For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God’s way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, ‘In God We Trust,’ and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient…

Take a moment to let this sink in.

Count your blessings and you will see miracles happening in your life every single day. Keep this story on your mind and notice how many coins suddenly show up in your path, then take a moment to share with us.

    Thanks for the story.
While in USA, I picked a lot of Pennies, never thanked God. You rarely find coins on the road in India.Next time I am in USA, when I pick up coins, I shall immediatyely thank God!
    Regards.

When I was a young girl, I would always see my Mother picking up coins and pennies in the street. I was a little embarrassed by this but when I asked my Mom why she always did that she explained…”be thankful that you are currently not in need of that penny, but do not be so arrogant to believe that you will always be so fortunate. And if you are always that fortunate, then that penny and others like it can be given to someone in need.” Since then I have never walked by a coin on the ground. A quick note I would like to add as well, with the same lesson…never step on a piece of food on the ground…as food is a blessing, that not all people are fortunate to have, instead pick up the food or push it onto the grass for a small creature to enjoy.

It is funny to read this story this afternoon because my partner found a penny at the Walmart side walk this afternoon. He had a Lung Cancer surgery in 12/20/2010 and it hasn’t been 2 months yet that he wanted me to pick the penny up and I gave it to him. It was face up but a part is crumbled up. I told him it is a good luck for him that he found it today. He is facing 5 weeks, 5 days a week radiation treatment starts soon and we both feel need a good luck on the outcomes. He is lucky enough to be able to walk and talk even now for what he had to go through with the operation. The surgery lasted 10 hours. I told him to read what it’s says on the penny after I read your story and the first thing he read out laud was “In God we Trust.” I never gave any attention what is on any coins until now. I told him to keep the penny for God to help him get through the treatment and recover totally cancer free.

I read this story a few weeks ago. Yesterday morning I received news that my 18 year old neice had been killed in an automobile accident. My sister, her other daughter, and my daughter traveled to the wreck site and in the rubble found a penny. I instantly new she was safe with God. Thank you for posting this story, I have shared it with my family.

Well this has my take on picky up pennies or any coin. When I find them, coins, I say out loud “Thank you Lord” it is a gift that is there for a lil effort compared to the effort that Christ did to “pick us up as one of his own.” So the next time you walk by a coin that is laying there, pick it up and thank the Lord Jesus for doing that and dying for us to make us rich.

I’m wondering how I might contact Scott Jones. I would like to include his comments in a penny project that I’m writing.
    Thank you!

I truly believe we need to trust in God.I remember reading this somewhere that If God answers our prayers, we believe in HIS ability but if God does not answer our prayers HE believes in OUR abilities. Our ability is to pray and trust in god

  12. I think that everything composed made a bunch of sense.
But, consider this, suppose you typed a catchier post title?

I ain’t saying your information isn’t solid, however suppose you added a
post title that makes people desire more?
I mean The Penny Story – Count Your Blessings | Inspiration Manifestation is kinda boring.
You could look at Yahoo’s front page and note how they write article headlines to get people to click.
You might add a related video or a related pic or
two to get people interested about what you’ve got to say.
In my opinion, it would bring your posts a little bit more interesting.

Yes, I’ve read this story in the past and since then I pick up penny on the road or at the parking lot and say it aloud, “In God I trust.” I thank God for the fortunate message I’ve received. It is almost like a treat I’ve received that day to find a penny. I then expect to have a good thing happen to me the same day but often does not happen but happens when I totally forgot about it. It is the way God operates so that even a little good thing we can appreciate it. God is just awesome loving, kind, patient being.

The healthy condition of the hair depends, to a very large extent, on the intake of sufficient
amounts of essential nutrients in the daily diet. Before
your next trip to the great outdoors, think about these cover-up methods:
. Commercial shaving creams usually consist of some sort of animal-based
    or hydrogenated vegetable-based fat, such
as stearic acid, chemicals meant to create the right texture and p – H, fragrances and dyes, and water.

Things had been rough. Literally one mistale seemed to turn my life upside down. Lost faith in myself. Now I know everyone makes mistakes but this one could cause a ripple effect. I decided to focus on the wonderful things in life and listen to nothing but inspirational words, books and stories. Signed up to a manifestation group on FB and read a story about a woman who gave generously to another in need and at the end of the day found a penny. Had to be a wonderful feeling for her to post about it. Minutes later I went to adjust my new chair at work and there in between the chair and lever was a penny. I thought “wow what a random spot” and smiled. A little time went by and I said I wonder what the year is. 1982 well guess what year I was born? Yup…. I hear you universe. Everything is gonna be just fine!!!

I was amazed of all of the stories because I have one too; my mother had just died and I was in the emergency room with her a lady with very bright hair came to the room and picked up a brand new penny off the floor and she asked me have I ever heard about if you find a new penny after a person died that they made it ; I replied and said never she said well she made it ; she left the room and then my sister walked in so I left the room to see where she went to get more information, but when I went to the nurse station no one saw this lady with the bright white hair I was shocked I just realized that it was a Angel that came to me at my mother bedside that day and I will cherish every moment of that memory for the rest of my life. Amen,,????
