One Nation Under God…by Jon McNaughton

"One Nation Under God."

This simple phrase, added to the pledge of allegiance over 50 years ago has been the source of unbelievable debate and heated controversy. Likewise, the phrase 'In God We Trust' on our currency has been targeted and continues to be attacked as improper and politically incorrect. Lawsuits have been filed and legal minds employed to ascertain whether such statements violate the concept of 'separation of church and state'.

As this debate continues, some so called experts have implied or concluded that our Founding Fathers and Patriots were not religious. These secular champions, in an effort to further their own causes, have even painted these great men and women from our history as being devoid of religious passions or even a belief in God. This is a part of their strategy to remove any discussion of God from the public forum.

These men and women were passionately religious and saw the hand of God all around them. To God they gave Thanks for His Hand in the founding of this great nation. To Him, according to their own testimony they turned for wisdom and strength when life and liberty hung in the balance. Certainly the debate on separation of church and state will continue. But no one can dispute how our Founding Fathers and Patriots felt about God. The record is clear!

'One Nation Under God' is Jon McNaughton's witness and reminder that those who went before us knew from whence their blessings came!

Beautiful. Why can’t the present leaders of our country see this and believe in this.

  2. vic grech says:

What a awe inspiering message this picture gives to all of us. May you Americans stay storng and unite to lead us to better god loving people.

  3. Since God is Pure Spirit, we cannot see HIM. He sent his Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ into the world to be our teacher and model of God the Father. As the Bible states:” No one can come to the Father unless The Father beckons through me,His Son, Jesus Christ”. Jesus does belong in this picture. We express our Christianity through the WORD of God, made man, Jesus Christ.

One nation under God: Separation of church and state, in my eyes that is not the same thing. One can believe in any faith or any non faith without the law objecting. Anyone can believe in what they want or choose not too, but our founding fathers chose to believe that nobody should be prosecuted for what they believe. Leave it alone and bring back the pledge of alligance in schools too.

  7. Lisa says:

I got goosebumps when this was sent to me !
This Country was founded as ONE NATION UNDER GOD.
OUR LEADERS HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS!
THE GOVERNMENT HAS ALLOWED MORE AND MORE ACTIONS AGAINST
    GOD!
    NO GOD IN SCHOOLS,
    THE ATTACK ON HOLY MATRIMONY,
    BETWEEN A MAN AND WOMAN!
ATTACKS ON ANYTHING WITH “GOD” IN IT.
WE AS GODS CHILDREN NEED TO STAND TOGETHER AND REMIND THE GOVERNMENT WHY THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED!

IT IS POLITICALLY INCORRECT TO TAKE GOD OUT OF ANYTHING
    IN THESE UNITED STATES!
IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT, TOO BAD GO TO WHERE EVER YOU GOT IT BETTER!
BUT DON’T MESS WITH OUR RIGHT, AS A COUNTRY, TO HONOR OUR GOD, WHO GAVE THIS LAND TO HIS CHILDREN .
OUR FOUNDING FATHERS FOUGHT FOR THIS RIGHT AND MANY OTHERS HAVE DIED PROTECTING THIS RIGHT.
SO WAKE UP AMERICA, AND STAND UP TOGETHER AS ONE NATION UNDER GOD, AND STOP THIS EVIL ATTACK ON ALL THINGS “GOD”

I watched this video with pride and allegiance to my faith and my country, and I was moved by the vision of the origins of the United States of America as that of a Christian nation. Jon McNaughton is very blessed to be able to capture in art form the essence of God’s blessing upon all of us who treasure our faiths. We need to use whatever our own talents are–wriitng, speaking, friendly conversations with others–running for office… etc., to keep Christianity alive in our land for us, our children, our grandchildren, and forever. Let us all keep vigilant with this beautiful painting etched in our minds forever as the impetus to keep our land one of freedom and one with Christian roots. Thank you Jon McNaughton!

  9. Phyllis Westbrook says:

This was beautiful, and how our nation was founded. Would love to know where someone can get this picture
    Thank you

  10. Dan says:

The portrait is beautiful. I totally agree with “One Nation Under God”, because thats exactly what we are! God is in control. Always and forever.

  11. Marge Crossley says:

I think that Raj has said it quite well. I am an American of no denomation but I do believe in God and He will not be suppressed as long as who do believe are not ashamed to say so. God keep us all and bless our Brave Warriors, who protect our rights.

  12. John J. Crossley, MM says:

Jon’s painting and message are very thought provoking in a refreshing way. He, as well as manyof the people who have commented about it show they have their minds and hearts moving in the right direction.

When our founding fathers drafted the amendments constituting the Bill of Rights, the very first amendment establishes what today we refer to as the “separation of church and state”. The lead sentence of the first amendment states and I quote “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.
This simply means that our government can neither mandate or sanction a particular religion as the “official” religion of the United States of America, nor can it say we must believe in a certain religion. Therefore we have the right to believe in the existence of a supreme being as we so choose. If a person chooses to not believe in God, that is their right as well.

Having the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance is not the establishment of a religion. When you recite the pledge if you do not believe in God then simply omit those two words as you do so.

I would be willing to bet the people who object to “In God We Trust” on our money do not hesitate to deposit it in a bank account or spend it as they see fit.

Several people commented on the color of Jesus in the painting. I believe Mr. McNaughton depicted Him the way he envisions Him. God is all colors. Jesus Christ is the son of God, thus he also is all colors. So if you envision Him as being the same color as yourself, then that is the way you should depict Him.

Mr. Mcnaughton, keep up the good work and I thank you for it.
