John Gottman, Ph.D., is recognized for his work on relationships and divorce prediction, involving the study of emotions, physiology, and communication. He is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Washington, where he founded the Family Research Lab, also known as “The Love Lab.” He has earned several awards for his research on marriage and parenting, including four National Institute of Mental Health Research Scientist Awards.

Dr. Gottman has authored or co-authored 119 published academic articles and 37 books, including the New York Times bestseller, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. In it, he says there is more to a solid relationship than communicating and sharing every feeling and thought.

These are his seven principles for making a relationship work:

• Maintain awareness of your partner’s world.
• Foster fondness and admiration.
• Turn toward instead of away.
• Accept your partner’s influence.
• Solve solvable conflicts.
• Cope with unresolvable conflicts.
• Create shared meaning.

By Petey Parker: A cab driver taught me a million dollar lesson in customer satisfaction and expectation. Motivational speakers charge thousands of dollars to impart his kind of training to corporate executives and staff. It cost me a $12 taxi ride.

I had flown into Dallas for the sole purpose of calling on a client. Time was of the essence and my plan included a quick turnaround trip from and back to the airport. A spotless cab pulled up.

The driver rushed to open the passenger door for me and made sure I was comfortably seated before he closed the door. As he got in the driver's seat, he mentioned that the neatly folded Wall Street Journal next to me for my use. He then showed me several tapes and asked me what type of music I would enjoy.

Well! I looked around for a "Candid Camera!" Wouldn't you? I could not believe the service I was receiving! I took the opportunity to say, "Obviously you take great pride in your work. You must have a story to tell."

"You bet," he replied, "I used to be in Corporate America. But I got tired of thinking my best would never be good enough. I decided to find my niche in life where I could feel proud of being the best I could be.

I knew I would never be a rocket scientist, but I love driving cars, being of service and feeling like I have done a full day's work and done it well. I evaluate my personal assets and... wham! I became a cab driver.

One thing I know for sure, to be good in my business I could simply just meet the expectations of my passengers. But, to be GREAT in my business, I have to EXCEED the customer's expectations! I like both the sound and the return of being 'great' better than just getting by on 'average'"

Did I tip him big time? You bet! Corporate America's loss is the traveling folk's friend!

I know that for me, once I started focusing on doing what I do best, I became a happier and more motivated person. Is time for you to evaluate your life and do what makes you happy?

Our precious friends whose caring touch can save us without even having to ask really reflects God's love. Watch this video then pick up the phone and call your friends just to let them know how much you appreciate them.

Power is actually one of the five basic human needs. By definition, power has to do with dominance and control. But I’m not talking about the control of one human being over another. It’s more like an example of when people tend to take things personally, but you can empower yourself to not be affected.

YOUR power, that is a basic human need, has to do with the “personal power” to not be offended or to not let someone else control YOUR emotions.

If you translate your “power need” into a personal affirmation, you might say something like, "I am in control of my life."

Translate this further into the work environment, "I am in control of the work that I do."

When we are in control of our lives or our work, are able to make decisions that impact both and we can take responsibility for our decisions.

When people feel powerless it means that the ability to come up with options and to make decisions, to control their work or things that affect their lives, have been taken away or are limited (in their minds).

So today, and every day, empower yourself to control your own life, destiny and emotions!!

So why do we humans struggle to give it and receive it?

Today let's all pretend that we're the beloved pet and treat the humans we love like a pet would - kiss them and pay attention to them no matter what today - small miracles can occur with love! Watch this video and be reminded of what unconditional love looks and feels like!
